Doing your Msc at DTU Nanotech

DTU Nanotech provides a lot of exciting courses on the master level. The courses are organised in three categories, the Micro, LabChip and Nano course of studies. We recommend that you take either Micro-2, Labchip-2 or Nano-2, as part of your master study. These courses really provide you an outstanding knowledge witin their fields. Flagmodellen - the flag model

At DTU you have to know the "Flagmodellen" - it groups the different courses into categories of which you must have 30 ECTS points. If you follow Physics & Nanotechnology most of DTU Nanotech's courses are integrated into this model, and the Micro-2, Labchip-2 or Nano-2 courses give credit in both the "General Competences" and "Technological Specialization" category. You can read more about how the different courses fit into the categories by visiting the Physics and Nanotechnology homepage. If you study elsewhere, the DTU Nanotech courses goes into the "Elective" category.

Thesis

The master thesis represents the final part of your study. This project is in the "Flagmodel" suggested to be of 30 ECTS points. At DTU Nanotech we recommend you to make a larger project - say 40 points and to perform the thesis work over a year of study. The topics you work on are of very high standards and many of them involves cleanroom work which also takes time to learn. In order for you to really have time to learn working in a research and development team you need time. Also, if you want to make a design of a device, to develop the theory for the device, and to fabricate and test your device you will need to work for a longer time than half a year. Therefore, we suggest you to use part of your "elective" ECTS points in order to make a larger thesis work. We recommend, that you avoid having courses in the last semester - there you really need to work full time on your master thesis. You can find a lot of exciting Master projects in our online Master Projects catalog. If you need assistance in planning your study you are welcome to contact our Student Counsellor.
