Alan Friis (AF) forsker i fødevareteknologi med særlig fokus på optimering og forbedring af produktonsprocessen for at sikre sunde fødevarer, og i den forbindelse i sær fokus på forbedring af hygiejnisk design af fødevareprocesser og produktionsfaciliteter, samt uddannelse og videnoverførsel til industrien.
