The overall aim of the Nanoprobes group is to develop and investigate high performance mechanical sensors for bio/chemical detection. The sensors are mainly developed for applications in liquid and have integrated read-out. Currently, the project focuses on the realisation of micro- and nanocantilever based sensors. In particular, the detection of specific biomolecules is of interest. Cantilever based sensors offer a platform for highly sensitive, label free molecular recognition on small sample volumes. Moreover, it is possible to realise small, cheap and portable sensor systems, which could be interesting for so called ‘point of care’ diagnostics.
