Therapeutic Nanobiocatalysis and Nanochemistry

Research within the Bioinspired Nanomaterials (BioNanoMat) group at DTU Nanotech involves the use of programmable nanochemistry and nanobiocatalysis as a new mode of therapy where disease causing substrates and molecules are destroyed in situ through the precise action of chemical functionalities on polymeric nanoparticles. Polymeric nanomedicines are versatile drug delivery systems, whereby functional and targeted nanoparticles can be formed in a single self-assembly step. Using nanochemistry, we design and synthesize therapeutic catalytic nanoreactors for the treatment of heart disease and cancer. Our research is highly interdisciplinary, spanning chemical synthesis, materials science and in vitro and in vivo biology.
